AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Pistons insisted it was merely another game, and one more win. For the Miami Heat, they put more stock into the matchup and found out they will have to improve to knock off the two-time defending Eastern Conference champions. Chauncey Billups scored 30 points, and Richard Hamilton had 25 points and a season-high nine assists Thursday night to lead Detroit past Miami 106-101.

Gary Payton tied a season-high with 21 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:05 left to help give the Miami Heat a 97-92 win over the Lakers on Sunday — their second straight hard-fought win over Los Angeles on Christmas Day.
