The time has come for us to reclaim our heritage. Our culture should not be a theme for certain days of the year to celebrate. Our wardrobe should not be a costume that we pull out of the closet only on special occasions. Being Garifuna is an everyday duty.

It never ceases to amaze me of the capability of the garifuna mind. I am always perplexed of what great accomplishments garifuna individuals have continued to make. Scholars have been able to translate not only the Holy Bible but also the national anthems of Honduras, Belize and now Guatemala into the Garifuna language

1. The meaning of the colors of the Garifuna flag: Yellow is for hope and liberation. White is for peace and freedom. Black is for Africa, death and suffering. This is a combination of 2 different definitions given by Garinagu from Honduras and Belize.

Instead of working together for a common goal, there seems to be a division of ideals and purpose. All of this needs to come to an end! Every time there is a need to help our people here in the States or abroad, there is never a united front to utilize our strength and resources towards a common solution or goal.
