Femara is the first drug approved for fighting cancer in post-menopausal women who have taken the drug tamoxifen for five years to keep the disease at bay.
In a Novartis-funded study, taking Femara after tamoxifen therapy cut the risk of death by 39 percent for certain breast cancer patients.
