Immigration officials took five Hispanic men who were arrested for possessing fake Social Security cards to a homeless shelter so they would have somewhere to sleep when they were released.
"They were released on their own recognizance and had no cash or means to secure other arrangements," said Paula Grenier, spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Boston.
Grenier said the five later were placed in a more stable housing situation, but would not provide specifics.
