Nicaragua registers the highest number of suicides committed by youths in Central America, according to a 2004 survey disclosed in Managua Tuesday.
The Desafio (Challenge) Foundation conducted the survey published by El Nuevo Diario newspaper, warning of the hard economic situation gripping the country and the consumption of alcohol and drugs, instrumental in many suicides.
At least 200,000 of over two million Nicaraguan youths have thought about committing suicide, the poll indicates.
