An ordained Catholic deacon who was slain Friday in Belize was so dedicated to his ministerial calling that he had moved there by himself three years ago.
Don Kostecki, a 64-year-old retired hydrologist from Topeka, was fatally shot Friday in what may have been a robbery. He was shot at close range while in his truck in St. Ignacio, said his wife, Netti Kostecki of Topeka.
“He put all his trust in the Lord and was there to serve people,” Kostecki said last weekend. “He knew what the Lord was calling him to do, and he was doing it.”
