A U.S. advisory panel on Tuesday urged approval for two new vaccines designed to elevate immunity against whooping cough, a disease that is making a comeback despite widespread immunization of children.
GlaxoSmithKline's vaccine, Boostrix, and a Sanofi-Aventis vaccine called Adacel both appear safe and effective for use as booster shots after immunity to whooping cough has waned, the Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) panel unanimously said.
