The presidents of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras issued an urgent call Saturday, saying efforts to topple their Nicaraguan counterpart, Enrique Bolaņos, could throw this country into a democratic crisis.
After meeting with Bolaņos, Oscar Berger of Guatemala, Tony Saca of El Salvador and Honduran Ricardo Maduro called on the Washington-based Organization of American States to send a delegation to Nicaragua to block efforts to remove him from office.
On Thursday, Nicaragua's federal controller's office said it would ask Congress to remove Bolaņos from power for failure to explain the origin of the funds he used during his presidential campaign in 2001.
