The 2004 Honduras Business and Trade Week kicked off at the Taipei World Trade Center Nov. 19. Organized by Honduran Ambassador Marlene Villela-Talbott, the 10-day promotional event is timed to coincide with a visit by a delegation of 20 visiting businessmen from the Central American nation. Activities are taking place in Taipei, Taichung and Tainan.
"This is the first time that Honduras has introduced its features to the business world in Taiwan," said Secretary-General of the Presidential Office of the Republic of Honduras Vicente William, "so that our friends in Taiwan can get to know our country better, and discover the incentives we have for foreign friends investing in Honduras." In a videotaped address, Minister of Industry and Trade Norman Garcia said Honduras is ready to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Taiwan. ROC Vice President Lu Hsiu-lien gave a speech on the opening day of the event in which she promised to return the favor by leading a delegation to visit Honduras and the ROC's other allies in Central America.
