At Holy Angels Academy, where she was a star runner, Colleen Kinder was taught by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, whose foundress, St. Marguerite D'Youville, was canonized for her works of charity.
From that tradition, Kinder, at 21, sprinted off for Cuba to "lend a hand to struggling Cuban nursing homes.
"I could never have imagined how outlandish my daily reality in Cuba would become. I spoon-fed more plantain puree than I ever knew existed," says Kinder.
