"Ahora! Ahora!" shouted the boatman in Spanish. "Now! Now!" I fumbled with my mask and snorkel, uneasy about jumping into the open ocean.
"Jump now, mon—he be right there!"
Holding my mask tightly to my face, I fell backwards into the water. Suddenly, I thought, What am I doing? Why am I jumping into a school of thrashing tuna far from the safe, tropical shore where I belong? As the bubbles cleared, I saw the most magnificent reason for flinging myself into the depths. Just below me, so close that I could touch it, was the biggest fish I had ever seen—in fact, the biggest fish in the entire ocean.
