TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) - A court yesterday ordered, then commuted, a sentence of community service against Miss Honduras 2002 for slandering the beauty contest's former organiser.
Ericka Ramirez, 19, was freed by a three-judge tribunal in La Ceiba, on the Atlantic coast about 250 kilometres (155 miles) north of the capital, Tegucigalpa. The court also suspended her house arrest, of which Ramirez already had served 27 days.
But the former beauty queen will not be able to vote in the November 2005 elections or run for public office for a year as punishment for slandering ex-pageant organiser Eduardo Zablah, the court said.
