"Eduardo Zablah, you were wrong about us", said a teary Mirtha Colon
when she got on stage to thank the hundreds of people who jammed packed IS
139 on Wednesday October 18th for a benefit concert in the South Bronx in New
York.
"This is just the start."
The event was a benefit fundraise to aid Erika Ramirez who was stripped
off her royalties by the Honduran beauty pageant organization and its
coordinator, Eduardo Zablah
"Today", began an exited Osiris Bengochea who is one of the pioneers in
Garifuna entertainment and who have been on stage with the likes of
Celia Cruz, "I feel very proud to be a woman and a Garifuna thank God and my
parents. But Erika and Honduras, we are with you all the way."
The statement drew the applause from the crowd that included Garinagu
from Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, Boston, Ohio and the five boroughs in New
York City.
Ricardo Rodriguez flew from  Livingston Guatemala just for the
occassion. "It was a must that I come because we are entering the time where we are
uniting", said while NUWANI Dance Co. were perfoming.
The crowd, who included high profile Garifuna celebrities like:
Garifuna Painter Vilo Lopez, Garinet.com Garphic Designer, Dixon Marin, Tonito
Galan Productions' Tony Nery, Jorge Marin from Punta Rock Records, Garifuna
Artists Union President, J. King and its Vice President, Victor Arzu,
Mirtha Colon, Jimmy Suazo, Wadaani, television personalities, Murphy Valentine
and Brenda Martinez from Centro America show, German Cayetano and Luz Soliz
for WAMALALI TV Show, Horizon Investment Company, all bands, their members,
DJ's and promoters were all present among the crowd.
The $1,600.00 collected will be sent to the family of Erika in
Honduras.
