Though the movie was about brainwashed soldiers and power-drunk politicians, the mood couldn't have been lighter at Monday's premiere of the remake of 1962 classic The Manchurian Candidate, opening July 30.
Even so, serious matters were on everyone's mind: The November presidential election was the topic du jour as the film's stars — as well as singer Usher, Kathy Bates, Julianna Margulies, author Toni Morrison, Tony winner Idina Menzel and model/actress Josie Maran — mugged for the cameras and made nice with reporters on the red carpet.
