Feuding Colonial guardsmen, Scottish clansmen and Trojan warriors covered the town yesterday, ready to do battle with musical instruments and precise marching steps.
Thirty-one Southern California high school bands in full regalia competed in the 28th annual Mt. Carmel High School Band Tournament, a day of competition on the field and on the streets, and one of the region's largest tournaments for high school bands.
With just minutes to impress the judges in the show and parade categories, participants checked for clean shoes, shiny instruments, hair in place, syncopated steps, alignment of drums and flutes along with dozens more details on top of playing well.
