There is a saga going on with Garifuna Coalition, a group of organizations in New York, wanting recede from its affiliation with ONECA in Central America.
According to sources and ranking members of organizations with the Garifuna Coalition, they believe that this move is wrong with the approaching event of December where its members are scheduled to have a conference at Hunter
College in New York.
"We feel that this is bad, given the fact that we have less than few months
to have what we have worked on come to life."
In a letter directed to ONECA's president, Celeo Casildo Alvarez, Garifuna
Coalition's president, Rejil Solis, describes the reason of why the Garifuna
American Organization, which was founded amidst the Bicentennial in Honduras
in 1997 as, "Irregularities upon the planification of the ONECA Assembly in
New York."
The letter can be read as HONDURAS NEW YORK recieved a copy and have
published it.
The question many organizations ask now is whether the conference, which
have been planned since December of 2002, will ever take place.
