Despite protestations to the contrary earlier this year, comedian-actor Chris Rock has agreed to host the 77th Academy Awards telecast in February.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the announcement Thursday.
"Not now, I'm still young. It's an older guy's gig," Rock, 39, told Sun-Times TV columnist Phil Rosenthal last March when asked about taking over the hosting duties. "Billy Crystal does the Oscars and I do the MTV Awards, and we're both where we're supposed to be. He's with Sophia Loren and I'm with OutKast."
