Unknown gunmen on Monday shot and killed the mayor of a rural Guatemalan town, who recently returned to the country after living in the United States, officials said.
Marciano Perez was driving to the coffee-growing town of Genova Costa Cuca, where he was mayor, when gunmen attacked his pickup truck, shooting him in the leg and arm. He died soon after being taken to a local hospital.
