Today is the day we commemorate 206 years of Garifuna presence in
Honduras.
There was a protest march in Trujillo, which included farmers from
Barranco
Blanco protesting against the National Port
Authority attempting to usurp their lands, (for local elites,
multi-national tourism projects and the huge American venture "Freedom
Ship") and others protesting an illegal highway in Iriona, which
damages
water reservoirs, crops and rainforest. There was also mention of
opposition to the war-occupation in Iraq, since Honduras shamefully
supported the U.S.. The actual anniversary is the 12 of April, but in
order
to have the government officials in the office, the commemoration was
forwarded to Friday.

Hoy es el dÃa que conmemoramos 206 años de presencia Garifuna en
Honduras.
HabÃa una marcha de protesta en Trujillo, incluyendo agricultores de
Barranco Blanco, protestando en contra de la usurpación de sus tierras
por
la Empresa Nacional Portuaria (para elites locales, proyectos
turisticos
multi-nacionales, y el plan gigante
NorteAmericano de 'Freedom Ship), y otros protestando la carretera
ilegal en
Iriona, que daña las represas de agua, siembros y bosque. Tambien
habÃa
mención de la oposición a la guerra/ocupación de Iraq, como Honduras
tiene
la verguenza de haber apoyado a los EEUU. El aniversario en si es el
12 de
abril, pero para hallar las autoridades en su oficina, la conmemoración
fue
adelantado para el viernes.
