Stevens Point Journal, WI
Two Stevens Point dentists left Friday afternoon to help the people of Honduras smile again.
Tara Jennings, 29, and her husband, Tom Westrick, 32, are traveling to the small mountain village of El Rodeo Mixqure in Honduras with the Medical, Eye and Dental International Care Organization (MEDICO). For eight days, they will provide dental care to people who don't otherwise have access to a clinic.
Jennings will perform extractions and do some fillings, while her husband will do root canals and other oral surgeries.
Fewer than two dentists are available for every 10,000 people in Honduras, according to the MEDICO Web site. In light of this statistic, Jennings and Westrick say they are in for a busy eight days.
