"They now know what they have to do to win the championship again," Laimbeer said after the Shock were eliminated in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 66-64 loss in Game 3 to the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. "They didn't know throughout the whole year. They thought they did. They muddled their way through."
One year after improving from the league's worst record to a WNBA-best 25-9 mark en route to their first title, the Shock struggled to a .500 record. Detroit won its last three games and needed a victory on the final day of the regular season just to qualify for the playoffs.
