For many years the Garifuna Woman has been an integral part of the great developments within the Garifuna community. It could almost be said that it is the Garifuna Woman that has carried on the core values of the Garifuna culture.
If we look closer we can see some of the works that some powerful Garifuna Women have been involved in for quite some time and now has been brought to the online world. Anita Martinez, for example, has been overseen Wagiameme Performing Troupe (http://www.wagiameme.com) for many years in the Los Angeles area. Mirtha Colon, from the area of New York, has been overseen Hondureños Contra el SIDA (http://contraelsida.garinet.com), to create awareness about the AIDS epidemic. Other Garifuna Women such as Cheryl Noralez and Reina David have recently joined in by writing relevant articles published throughout the Garinet Network sites.
Sadly enough, as hard as these Garifuna Women work, there seems to be not enough recognition nor support to give continuity to the great works that have been initiated. In the event that one day, one of these ladies wake up and feel like delegating the torch, what guarantees are there that a Garifuna young woman will be there to carry on? Unfortunately, in the current situation chances are close to zero.
Garinet Global has just unveiled a new service website dedicated specifically to the Garifuna Woman. This new website will contain information relevant to the Garifuna woman. The Garifuna Woman will have the freedom to share issues from a woman point of view. The Garifuna Woman will have the ability to motivate and inspire as well as to get inspired on a Woman-to-Woman level.
The new website is scheduled to launch within two months. The exact name of the site will be revealed as the time closes to launch date.
For now, Garinet Global is taking inputs and suggestions from every Garifuna Woman for the specific sections that they would like to have included on the new website.
Please send all your suggestions for this new site to the following email:
