Averting the worst United States finish in Olympic history, a dejected set of National Basketball Association players salvaged a bronze medal here Saturday by defeating Lithuania 104-96.
An American team which had been seeking a fourth consecutive gold medal endured the worst results of any US Olympic entry, losing two preliminary games and being ousted by Argentina 89-81 in the semi-finals.
