A recent conversation with a young man from the Dominican Republic spiked my interest in that country and the historical events leading to many of its citizens immigrating to our shores.
A neighbor to volatile Haiti, its peaceful sunny beaches beckon to American tourists and sends our country tropical produce, inexpensive manufactured goods and some top-notch baseball players. But the democratic government it has enjoyed for about 35 years was won at a great cost.
