April 18, 2005 Marks one year since the tragic passing of the great Garifuna music artist, Jimmy Suazo. As we remember Jimmy on this date, we would like to point out that Jimmy was always a great supporter of the Garinet project. He was the first Garifuna music artist to be featured on the Garinet chat room on April 19, 2000.

Dear Friends,
As you may have learned, there was an accident in Guatemala on Thursday that claimed 13 lives as of this morning. One of the people who died is my aunt, Dalia Victoria Cayetano Martinez who leaves behind four children and two grand children and a loving family.

What can we say about Joe that hasn’t already been said or felt? This column is by no means an exhaustive replay of Joe’s life and career, that would require volumes. He was a son of the soil, born and raised in Dangriga. As a youngster, he walked the main streets and played football like every other red blooded Belizean boy.
