Salvadoran President Promotes Immigration Reform Among Area Groups |

The area's largest immigrant group got a visit from a familiar face this weekend.
Salvadoran President Tony Saca visited the Washington area, launching a campaign to remind Salvadorans to reregister for a program that grants them temporary work permits in the U.S.
The Department of Homeland Security announced last week that it will extend the benefit for another 18 months because El Salvador is still rebuilding after two devastating earthquakes in 2001. The Central American country relies heavily on money sent home by its workers abroad.
