A federal judge has found the government of Belize in contempt of court and has fined it $50,000 for each day it was in contempt.
The ruling stems from a dispute over the seizure of a telecommunications company the Central American nation had sold to a U.S. firm.
U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro-Benages ruled Thursday, saying Belize ignored her order to restore control of Belize Telecommunication Limited to Innovative Communication Corp.
