Newark Star Ledger, NJ
A Bergen County man who worked as a regional Teamsters labor organizer was killed in El Salvador while on a trip to meet with labor union leaders and port drivers, officials said yesterday.
Jose Gilberto Soto, 49, of Cliffside Park, was shot and killed Nov. 5 in Usulutan, the place of his birth and a day before his birthday, according to Teamsters spokesman Galen Munroe.
An organizer of port workers in the New York-New Jersey region, Soto was shot by two or three men while he was talking on a cell phone at his mother's house, Munroe said yesterday. There was no robbery, Munroe added.
