U.S. urges Nicaragua to destroy missiles |

Concern intensified when a judge sentenced two Nicaraguans to prison on terrorism charges for possessing and planning to sell one of the SAM 7 missiles left over from the country's 1980s-era civil war.
State Department and Pentagon officials were in Managua to persuade the government to get rid of hundreds of missiles still in army stockpiles after a vote in Nicaragua's Congress that could make their destruction more difficult.
"I think we've been satisfied with some of the efforts the Nicaraguan government has made to destroy missiles — the sting operation that helped identify that there might be others out there," U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said in Washington.
