GUATEMALA CITY -- At a rate of more than one a day, the mutilated bodies of Guatemalan women are turning up on roadsides and in dumpsters. Some have been decapitated with butcher knives. Others have been strangled or burned beyond recognition. Many have been raped.

What was once known only as a travel location for divers from around the world has since become the premier tourist destination in Belize. Last Friday, June 4th, representatives from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), Belize Rural South Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr., Mayor Elsa Paz and the San Pedro Town Council came together to honor "La Isla Bonita" at the inauguration of the official Ambergris Caye Tourist Information Center.
